IN THE NEWS: Fratello Showcases the Humboldt ExP-02
Netherlands-based watch publication, Fratello, sings the praises of the Humboldt ExP-02. Our friend and Fratello contributor, Mike Stockton, has covered Oak & Oscar for years, and he was excited about the in-house craftsmanship behind the Humboldt ExP-02.
“The Humboldt ExP-02 keeps things relatively simple within the engine bay, but it impresses with some key components made at the company’s headquarters in Chicago.”
We’re super excited to share the ExP-02 with folks because it required a lot of skill and ingenuity to produce. We’re exploring new horological techniques and learning how to make more parts in-house. As Mike points out, “Oak & Oscar produces two key components internally using a Schaublin 70 lathe. The chapter ring…is machined from aluminum tubing. Then, the dial, with its gray appearance, is cut out from an aluminum sheet using a 100-watt MOPA fiber laser…The team at Oak & Oscar uses the lathe to produce the external stainless steel bezels.”
Mike concludes that, “All told, the Humboldt ExP-02 is a sharp-looking watch with a dial design that’s hard to dislike. Plus, as a fan of smooth-bezel tool watches, I like this take on the Humboldt.”
Thanks for highlighting the ExP-02, Mike! If you’d like a chance to purchase one of these limited production pieces, click here to enter the lottery. But hurry! It closes by the end of the day tomorrow!
