Learn more about the Matte Series.

Less is more. Introducing the Olmsted Matte, the classic field watch that you know and love, now with a non-reflective, durable ceramic coating that helps it disappear on your wrist. In a nod to simplicity and symmetry, we’ve modified the movement and removed the date function for a super clean look. And no, there’s no phantom date jump or crown position! We do things right.

Each Matte Series watch is individually coated in small batches right here in the United States. The coating process uses incredibly high temperatures to harden and cure the ceramic, leaving behind an even matte surface. The patina developed over time will be specific to the wearer and one of a kind.

Each watch is hand-assembled, tested and regulated at our Chicago headquarters by our head in-house watchmaker and Director of Watchmaking, Nathan. We’re very proud to continue the tradition of watchmaking here in the US and are dedicated to the art, craft and a little touch of mad-science that is horology.

We’re proud of our Horween leather straps and the craftsmanship that goes into them. From the hand-beveled edges with applied water-based dye to the hidden orange stitching on the floating keeper, our leather strap tapers from 20mm to 18mm at the buckle for a comfortable fit.

We're doing it the right way, not the easy way. All of those extra steps mean that the Matte Series is a limited production piece. Not limited edition—we won't be cutting these off at a specific serial—but we just can't crank 'em out the way we'd like for regular production. So if you want one, order now before our first batch runs out!

    Impressive Watch!

This is my first "real" watch and I couldn't be more impressed with the quality, attention to detail, and overall feeling of this watch being something special. I really like the simple look of the watch, as it's not too flashy, but looking at it closer you realize the depth of the sandwich dial. It's also awesome to think being a mechanical watch that it will continue running as long as I continue wearing it!

The leather strap is very soft and comfortable and the addition of the canvas strap, watch wallet, and strap tool are an awesome bonus as I didn't own any of these before buying this watch.

I'm sure this watch will last long enough to pass on to my son one day!

Great watch and excellent addition to the Oak & Oscar line

Received the matte ceramic Olmsted in early March and have really been enjoying it. 38mm is a great size for this watch. The sandwich dial and clean layout of this watch looks great, and the matte ceramic has a really unique texture and color. I've had a stainless Sandford since they came out in 2016, and this makes a great counterpoint to that watch. Glad to see Oak & Oscar going strong and creating interesting new watches. Love it!

    Great Piece

This was actually my first order from Oak and Oscar, had a connection with the design so before even receiving the Matte, broke down and ordered the Silver / White Olmsted. And Honestly they are similar but so different. Both wear very well, I do enjoy how the Matt just blends into your wrist and pretty much matches anything you can wear. It is a casual wear and also a dressier one. Seems as big on my wrist as some of my 40mm but discreet. The build is everything you could expect from these guys and you can tell that details were important.

Now is it worth the money for a watch with no complications? I believe it is worth every penny. You can tell that they poured their hearts into this one and from the stitching to the case and even glass it is impressive. The two iterations have a permanent place in my collection now and they come out into the rotation very frequently.

Took a bit but I love it.

The Olmsted Matte is a quietly distinctive piece, with touches that give pleasure to the wearer without necessarily shouting out to all comers. Excellent size (for me at least). NO DATE! A date window isn't always a problem, but the whole dial composition, IMO, needs to take its presence into consideration. And it simply Does Not Work on many dials...and a sandwich dial, IMO, is one of them.

    Olmsted Matte is impressive

The Olmsted Matte is a great addition to my collection. It’s unique and unlike any of my other watches. Nice size; well crafted; both subtle and eye-catching at the same time.
