The Sandford: A Sequel Just as Good as the Original

Producing a good sequel can be a real challenge. Just think of Jaws II or Blues Brothers 2000, for example. But sometimes the sophomore effort plays off the success of the first and becomes a classic in its own right (The Godfather Part II, anyone?). As Jason Heaton put it in his 2016 hands-on review, “the Sandford avoids the dreaded sophomore slump that afflicts so many, from musicians to athletes to M. Night Shymalan movies. It is a watch that shows the focus on individuality and the quality of its designer while setting itself apart from so many derivative homage watches in off-the-shelf cases.

When it was first released, the Sandford marked a leap forward in Oak & Oscar’s design. Transitioning from a time-and-date field watch to a GMT reflected a desire to push the boundaries and increase the complexity of our watches. The Sandford isn’t just any GMT, either. It features a compressor-style dial with an internal, rotating chapter ring. The watch maintains the sandwich dial construction and custom font first introduced with the Burnham. A few other design details and personal touches really set this watch apart, including the arrowhead-tipped GMT hand that reflects Chase’s childhood love of collecting arrowheads and his lifelong interest in anthropology.

We’re pleased to be able to offer for sale a collection of ten Sandford examples, with five in stainless steel and five in PVD. These watches are taken from a combination of new old stock, pieces acquired on the secondary market, and pieces built from parts in the shop. The dials and case backs of the watches have been printed with a special ten year logo to commemorate the occasion.

To be eligible to purchase one of these rare pieces, you’ll have one week to enter the lottery. At the end of the week, on July 25th, we’ll host a random drawing to select the lucky winners and notify them via email.
