A watch that punches WAY above its weight class
I'm a bit of a watch nerd, I suppose, with a growing collection (Rolex: DateJust 36 & Explorer II; Tag Heuer Monaco; Omega Speedmaster '57; Serica GMT; Tudor Black Bay GMT; Nomos Club; Hamilton Field Khaki in bronze). And so I frame my remarks about the Humboldt GMT around these watches.
I originally bought this watch as a present, but ended up keeping it for myself, and I think the piece is darn-near perfect. When I bought the Explorer II , I was hoping for the white dial, but ended up with the black. As such, I was somewhat in the market for a white-faced watch. The dial on the Humboldt is lovely; I appreciate the sandwich aesthetics and the proportions are perfect (arabic numbers really leap from the dial, and it is wonderfully legible). The size is perfect for my own write...the 36 mm Date Just disappears on my wrist, and the 42 mm Speedmaster or Explorer are impossible to get under a shirt cuff. The finish--both on the bracelet and on the bezel--is spot on. I also love that there is an interior 24-hour marking on the watch; this means I can keep track of three time zones (this sounds crazy, but I keep local time and Florence time...so if I am travelling away from home I can use the rotating bezel to track a time at an airport or at a new location. A small thing, I know, but the small things matter).
And this is a small thing, too, but perhaps it's worthwhile to point out. After each Rolex purchase, I have left the AD thinking that they made me feel as if I was…
