The Olmsted 38 is a classic, automatic winding, 38mm field watch with a two-layer sandwich dial, 10 ATM (100m / 330ft), screw-down crown, and inner minute track with orange cardinal numeral accents.

The Olmsted 38 takes its namesake from conservationist and founder of landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted – an avid believer in the need of natural public space in society. Olmsted is responsible for designing many of the public parks in the United States; notably, Central Park in New York City, and Jackson Park in Chicago. Throughout a fascinating life, Olmsted pushed for the protection of Yosemite Valley, created the parkway, the integrated park system, and founded the precursor to the Red Cross.

The engine powering The Olmsted 38 is either Sellita SW300 or the ETA 2892A2, both legendary, Swiss-made, solid workhorse movements customized with our iconic 4-star rotor design – a subtle nod to our hometown of Chicago.

We’re proud of our Horween leather straps and the craftsmanship that goes into them. From the hand-beveled edges with applied water-based dye to the hidden orange stitching on the floating keeper, our leather strap tapers from 20mm to 18mm at the buckle for a comfortable fit.

Our stainless steel bracelet sits comfortably on the wrist with a fully articulated link design that gradually tapers from the 20mm solid end links to the 16mm buckle.

The bracelet has 7 removable links and a six position quick-adjust, locking clasp. Yup, that means no tools required to adjust the fit on the fly! The bracelet will fit wrists from 6.2 inches to 9.1 inches (158mm - 231mm).

Small in size, deep in character; A Daily Companion Built to Last

From the moment I fastened the Olmsted 38 to my wrist, it felt like it belonged there. The 38mm stainless steel case strikes a perfect balance between presence and comfort, while the gently curved lugs ensure a natural fit. The sandwich dial adds depth, texture, and a quiet sense of drama to its clean design, with flawless legibility in any light. Crisp Arabic numerals and perfectly proportioned hands show careful design, and the movement has been keeping impressively accurate time from day one. Despite being automatic, its slim profile slips easily under a shirt cuff, enhancing its versatility. The Horween leather strap is supple, well-crafted, and comfortable right out of the box.

The seller also deserves credit for making the experience seamless. Communication was prompt, professional, and friendly. Every detail was double-checked before shipping, and the secure, well-presented packaging showed genuine care for both the watch and the customer.

Even in a carefully curated collection, the Olmsted 38 has already claimed a permanent place — refined, dependable, and quietly distinctive, it’s a watch I’ll be wearing for many years to come.

    Gorgeous watch

Very classy and great build. Also the case they gave me (looks like a folio) is phenomenal.

    Solid Watch

This is a very good watch. It feels solid and well-made. There is nothing about it that feels cheap, chintzy, or jangly. The shade of blue of the dial is perfect, and I really like the font used and that it’s a sandwich. It’s admirably slim and compact. There are no hot spots. It manages to be very much a field watch without looking like a Hamilton knock-off.

There are a few areas that could be improved. I think the bracelet could be significantly better in three ways. First, I appreciate that the links are all articulable; but they won’t go past the plane of the bracelet, which makes it sit with more difficulty off the wrist. Second, I like for there to be a slight but well-defined vertical separation between the three different faux links in the end links of a bracelet; and that’s just not how this bracelet is. Third, I wish that the clasp had milled-out areas on the side to receive the fold over. In addition, the crown doesn’t have good pop when you unscrew it to wind the watch, and sometimes you end up just rescrewing it in when you’re trying to wind. Finally, the lume isn’t great. These are all fairly minor points, but they really shouldn’t be there on a $1700 watch.

    It's sneaking up on me

Four stars and not five because I am still bonding with this watch. The white dial is excellent and pops more in person than it does in picture. Excellent and very clear/clean typeface. Wears a little smaller than I had expected but it's still a good fit. I think it's a keeper.

    I really like it

The watch has nice finishes and has been very accurate, so far. The case and presentation is good, upon receipt. I like the Chicago Build. Happy so far.
