The Olmsted 38 is a classic, automatic winding, 38mm field watch with a two-layer sandwich dial, 10 ATM (100m / 330ft), screw-down crown, and inner minute track with orange cardinal numeral accents.

The Olmsted 38 takes its namesake from conservationist and founder of landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted – an avid believer in the need of natural public space in society. Olmsted is responsible for designing many of the public parks in the United States; notably, Central Park in New York City, and Jackson Park in Chicago. Throughout a fascinating life, Olmsted pushed for the protection of Yosemite Valley, created the parkway, the integrated park system, and founded the precursor to the Red Cross.

The engine powering The Olmsted 38 is either Selitta SW300 or the ETA 2892A2, both legendary, Swiss-made, solid workhorse movements customized with our iconic 4-star rotor design – a subtle nod to our hometown of Chicago.

We’re proud of our Horween leather straps and the craftsmanship that goes into them. From the hand-beveled edges with applied water-based dye to the hidden orange stitching on the floating keeper, our leather strap tapers from 20mm to 18mm at the buckle for a comfortable fit.

Our stainless steel bracelet sits comfortably on the wrist with a fully articulated link design that gradually tapers from the 20mm solid end links to the 16mm buckle.

The bracelet has 7 removable links and 5 micro-adjustments on the locking clasp. The bracelet will fit wrists from 6.2 inches to 9.1 inches (158mm - 231mm).

    Love it

I've been wearing $100 - $300 quartz watches for the past 20 years. Finally got sick of the crappy quality (they wouldn't last long before they stopped working) and decided to invest in a quality automatic piece. So glad I did. This watch is stunning. My only complaint is that the glass easily attracts fingerprints and other smudges. It could really use oleophobic coating.

The Only Watch I Want to Wear

Many people like to swap out watches to suit the occasion. I wanted one watch that would work for everything. The Olmsted really is an every day, every occasion watch. The grey dial is subtle and understated, yet knows how to stand out when the situation arises. The Horween leather strap is the perfect thickness with a well designed buckle and will only get better with time. The Burgundy canvas strap has the perfect pop of color, is remarkably comfortable, and adds a more casual and rugged look to this watch. The drab green NATO strap is perfect for adventuring and looks absolutely incredible. I don’t travel for work anymore or attend black tie dinners but if I did, a steel bracelet would allow the Olmstead to rise to those occasions.

I love how clean and simple the face is. The sandwich dial adds a layer of depth without cluttering the dial and the font of the numerals is unlike anything out there.

If I could nitpick about anything (and this is really nitpicking), the font on the date wheel doesn’t exactly match the font on the dial (the 1, 8, 0 are slightly different) and it would be nice if the buckle of the NATO strap was in the same style as the leather and canvas buckle.

Beyond the watch, I’m impressed with Oak and Oscar’s commitment to the environment and community. Companies often do not put enough emphasis on those things, but it makes a difference.

Overall, I can dress this watch up or down to perfectly match any and all situations and it’s really the only watch…

    Love it!

Great watch: perfect specs, love the case design, super comfortable bracelet, cool dial, great packaging. Only complaint: the clasp on the bracelet isn't great compared to the overall quality of the watch. Super satisfied overall. Thanks, O&O team!

    Love it!

I opted for the white dial version and love it. You can tell a lot of time was spent on the aesthetics of this watch with an easy-to-read & beautiful dial with a pop of color with an orange seconds hand and orange quarter-minute markings around the chapter ring at 15-30-45-60. The bracelet is very well done with an ingenious ratchet-type system for adjusting the size of the clasp. The watch has a pretty good weight on it, especially with the bracelet. I would say it wears a tad bit larger than 38mm and more like 40mm - not complaining, just an observation. The build quality is on par with watches in a much higher price range. If I could change one thing, I would remove the date feature/window or keep the date feature/window but increase the size a little. As it is, the date window is a tad too small and the number is a little hard to read. I hope this review helps you in deciding.

    Slice of awesomeness

Received my Olmsted 38, Navy on bracelet this past week. Awesome watch, everything was better than expected, from the fast delivery, packaging, personalized note, stickers, watch wallet and of course the watch!!! As a newbie to finer watches, I could not be happier with my purchase. This will certainly be an everyday watch for a while…until I can get my hands on other Oak and Oscar watches!!! Can’t wait to keep collecting this brand and showing them off on the wrist!
