IN THE NEWS: Hodinkee Lists the Olmsted as the Ideal Wedding Watch
Deciding what to wear to your best friend’s wedding can be a challenge. You want to look nice, but you also don’t want to take too much attention away from the stars of the show, namely, your friend and their soon-to-be spouse.
Hodinkee’s team of editors decided to take the guesswork out of the process (at least as far as what's on your wrist is concerned). They recently published an article in which they listed their ideal wedding watches. Hodinkee's resident vintage specialist, Rich Fordon, selected none other than the Olmsted 38 as the perfect watch for the occasion.
As Rich noted, picking out a timepiece can be especially fraught for someone who works in the watch industry. If people ask what’s on your wrist, you want to be able to tell them a bit of a story, but you also don’t want to get too deep into the weeds and risk seeing your audience’s eyes glaze over before they abruptly turn and leave you in favor of grabbing another cocktail.
This is, in part, why Rich chose an Oak & Oscar. “When you ‘work in watches’ and attend a wedding, people will inevitably be curious about what you’re wearing. I have…come to a realization: non-watch crazed people don’t want to hear you talk about some niche vintage Rolex or anything too ‘luxury.’”
For Rich, the Olmsted strikes just the right balance. “The Olmsted’s story is very engaging. As opposed to ranting at someone about a vintage Rolex dial that was only produced for two years, I can introduce them to a Chicago-based brand run by a friend that is all-in-all doing things the right way.”
